"Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD" (Deut 8:3). A life lived "beyond bread" is one sustained not by what is seen, but by what is unseen, by the Word of God. It is not primarily focused on material gain in this life, but on treasure in the next. Living according to God's Word can lead us to "beyond bread adventures" in unexpected places! . . . both in our own hearts in the world! (Matt 6:19-20)
Present
I currently serve as a USA missionary under the Southern Baptists' North American Mission Board. I completed my MA in biblical counseling at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2014. From 2009 to 2016, I taught and counseled at a local family education ministry (Choices Life Resource Center) in New Albany, Indiana. My background in teaching Spanish and English proved very useful for counseling at the women's center, in teaching English as a second language, and in assisting in local Hispanic church-plants. I discovered that through connecting to the community as a volunteer in a non-profit like Choices, I could develop many relationships that would naturally lead to opportunities to share the gospel and initiate home Bible studies, plus help connect my clients/students to local churches and church-plants. Since July, 2018 I have been replicating my Indiana ministry in an area of Michigan, about an hour from Detroit that encompasses Lapeer, Imlay City, and Almont, so far. Here I meet families through a local literacy center where I have English Second Language students from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, but predominantly Hispanic. I also work to inspire local churches to develop an evangelical outreach to the local ethnic population.
